~ In loving memory of Alexandria Charlton ~

The original artwork "Everything the Light Touches" was created using oil paint on canvas and completed on July 17th of 2022. This painting was commissioned by Alex’s family to celebrate a beautiful daughter, sister and friend who’s unparalleled radiance will always be with us.

One of my greatest explorations is the delicate dance between darkness and light; both visually and emotionally. There is no denying the existence of these forces together in our lives. As an artist, I aim to allow light and dark, hope and despair to be represented together where they naturally exist within my work because while potent enough apart, I believe that together they define our own humanity. I also believe there is more to our existence than the world we see every day. I tried to imagine where Alex is now while she watches over her loved ones; a place out of a fairytale written just for her. I never had the joy of knowing Alex in this life. But through the process of creating this work, I’ve had the privilege to meet her through her family and the beautiful legacy she’s given us. Alex had such incredible potential pent up inside of her. It reminds me of the moment a butterfly is meant to break free from their cocoon, because it’s a moment born from the destruction of self. From rebuilding an identity piece by piece into what it was always meant to be. I can only imagine how terrifying that was for her. But I also believe with all of my heart, her moment of metamorphosis will live on forever.

Our society has so much to learn from Alex and others like her. In fact, I think we’re all a lot like Alex; amazing and brilliant beyond our own comprehension. It’s okay to not have all the answers, but together we will move forward with love and light. And the world we see beyond will be welcoming and radiant beyond our wildest dreams.

At the request of Alex's family, I have made prints available of this beautiful piece. For every print and sticker sold, 50% of the profits will be donated to the Trevor Project; the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ youth. Alex was never afraid to share her light with the world, and I don’t think she’ll ever stop.
